Your fear of being ugly is making you ugly

The reason your style sucks is because you're confident about the wrong thing

As a self-proclaimed rising star of TikTok, my comments are flooded with the same kind of sentiment:

You believe that style is reserved for a very limited group of people.

That wearing whatever you want is a privilege very few can get away with, and you are not one of those people. You can’t pull it off.

I bet you think this comes down to confidence, but that’s where you’d be wrong.

Confidence? You have that in spades, baby.

The paradox of confidence

The reason you feel ugly, the reason you think your style sucks, is because you’re confident about the wrong fucking thing :) The reason you think you can’t is because you don’t. You’re absolutely, unwaveringly confident….in your lack of confidence.

You don’t believe that you’re allowed to look the way you want → so you don’t because you don’t → the ‘you’ others see isn’t real → which makes you feel like an imposter → because you have an entire inner world you can’t express → because don’t believe that you’re allowed to look the way you want.

Craving a ‘capsule wardrobe’ is the most boring fucking thing you could possibly want because in order to have real style, you have to be fluid.

You’re never going to look like the person you are if you don’t allow any experiences, preferences, favorite books, characters, music, colors, life events, break-ups, promotions, friends, whatever to actually impact anything you wear. The only thing the capsule wardrobe is good for is teaching you how to look like someone else, and one day you’re going to wake up and realize that you’re dressing for a person that doesn’t exist because you will have spent your entire life dressing like who you thought you should be, and not who you actually are.

Be ugly, weird and strange, write your own prophecy, bow to no master.
